Purpose built and first used as the home of Barton Transport Limited (Bartons) from 1913, The Garage was the official base of a family firm that went on to become, for a time, the largest independent bus operator in Western Europe.
After bus operations were sold in 1989, The Garage has been used in a number of different ways and most recently, following the unexpected success of Bartons’ Centenary Celebrations in 2008, the firm experimented with finding artistic uses for the remaining garages.
Over the last 12 years The Garage has hosted Warehouse Parties, Beer Festivals, Indoor and Drive in Cinemas, Modern Art Exhibitions, Food Festivals, Stand-Up Comedy, Silent Discos, Music Festivals, and Sunday Markets.
Perhaps one of the very first spaces re-imagined as a multi-use event space, The Garage is as genuine and authentic as you’ll find anywhere in the UK.
